Rooted Spaces designs outdoor living spaces so people can live memorably & set deep roots. The goal is to design living spaces that tie people to their home, community and ecology in a more sustainable way.
Each home is assessed for the homeowner’s specific needs and desires. Views–both inside and out, flow, accessibility, and many other factors inform the concept. Ecologically driven values are incorporated into the palette to reduce consumption & carbon footprint over the life of the home. Seamless design integrating stormwater management and local plants assures appropriate water use & provides restorative habitat. Care is taken to balance the homeowner’s needs with nature’s while creating beautiful usable spaces.
Budgets can be met through 1:1 consultations, simple 2D plans on up to 3D renderings and construction docs. Plans can be used for competitive bids, DIY or, to submit for HOA, City or Historical applications. For ease of mind, homeowners can allow Rooted Spaces to project manage installation using preferred contractors. Budget between $10K to 15% of your home’s value for quality build, or start with about $500 for design services only.
Contractor Services:
Rooted Spaces offers services from hand drawn, AutoCAD, 3D Modeling in Revit, schematic to custom construction drawings. Local permit and HOA processing services are also available.
Furniture Design:
Custom furniture using reclaimed materials is Rooted Spaces’ way to balance use of materials with design. Providing work for local craftspeople benefits the local economy & reduces transportation’s carbon footprint. Those who invest in custom furniture tend to hold on to it as heirlooms pieces instead of tossing it for the next trend. When outdoor furniture is site specific and built well, it too tends to last the test of time. Sometimes, on-site custom built structures cost less than pre-manufactured. Both indoor and outdoor furniture design and production services are available.
Experience:
Designer Uni Ortegon has been gardening in various climates along the west coast her entire life. Her ecology based undergrad degree and environmental career engrained the value of understanding local ecology, water management, pollution control and ecological restoration. Uni acquired a certificate of Landscape Architecture at University of California, Berkeley through their extension program. This holds similar weight as a Master’s at Cal when combined with her undergraduate degree at UC San Diego. While not yet a licensed Landscape Architect, Uni’s experience and skillset provide unique value by taking into account details such as Universal Accessibility (ADA), Storm Water Management & Drainage.
